Dr. Peggy Gurrad, the Chairman of International Projects for the Longview-Kelso chapter of Altrusa International, began collecting donations for Amity orphanage projects in December of 1998.  Dr. Gurrad acts as a volunteer coordinator between worldwide donors and Amity Foundation efforts.

Peggy is a physician specializing in internal medicine, working for Kaiser Permanente in Longview, Washington.  She ensures that everyone involved is aware of exactly what is needed and how donations are spent.  Like most of the volunteers involved in these projects, Peggy has adopted a child from China.

Why Does Altrusa Work With Amity?

Altrusa works with the Amity Foundation in China, largely due to the amazing job that Peggy has done in organizing charitable efforts to improve the lives of the children in the orphanages in the Jiangxi province.

She maintains an immense degree of detail concerning both needs and success stories.

Close ties with the Amity workers in China help us all to work together in the most efficient and cost effective manner.  Dedicated Amity Foundation doctors, staff members and volunteers work "in the field" in China's orphanages.  Amity organizes and monitors programs that provide foster care, Hugging Grannies, school tuitions, equipment, supplies and badly needed medical aid to the children growing up in China's orphanages.

By making donations through Peggy's chapter of Altrusa, you can be assured that we will work extremely diligently to ensure that your dollars will be spent for a particular need that we have been made aware of in an orphanage.  When you sponsor a foster child or school tuition, you will be given the name and a photo of the child you are sponsoring.

Since the Amity Foundation is in China, you can make sure that your donations are tax deductible in the United States, by contributing through Altrusa.
